Not for a newbie to HM games...
I recieved this game when I was pretty young and, of course, found it challenging. This game was my first Harvest Moon game, and it didn't leave a good first impression. In this game, all of the characters already know who you are, but (being knew to HM games) I didn't know who THEY were... not even a minor introduction. I later learned from other's reviews that the characters in this game are from previous HM games. For a newbie, you are being thrown into a game without any background information, and your only tutorials being from a Harvest Sprite channel. In this game, you don't start out with a barn or a coop, which makes it VERY hard to make money since selling animals' profits composes most of your income in the game. If you can't earn money, then the game gets very boring, very fast. I haven't even played the game long enough to get hearts with any of the people. I would much rather play the game as a girl than as a boy (sadly, the boy version came out first), but with such unpleasant experience with this one (and similar story with Harvest Moon: DS Cute), I think I'll just go with another Harvest Moon DS game with another story altogether. On the OTHER hand, I fell in love with Harvest Moon: Animal Parade on the Wii console (my second HM game). You're the new person in town, so everyone introduces themselves, you start out with a coop AND barn, and it has greater graphics on the console than in the handheld games. I guessing money isn't easily attainable in all HM games (because it isn't exactly in HM:AP and sure wasn't in HM:DS), but if you come up with a system (like cultivating lots of crops and mining and fishing abundantly), it's relatively manageable and everyday I'm earning more money. I tried using my system on HM:DS, but I can't water enough crops! On HM:AP you have a stamina gauge displayed so you KNOW you're limits and know when to stop using tool and such. But on HM:DS, you don't have a gauge, and after watering just a FEW of crops, you are on the verge of passing out. With everything being better in Harvest Moon: Animal Parade, I instead recommend that to new and seasoned players to Harvest Moon players. HM:DS has pretty decent graphics for it to be an RPG and on a handheld device. My biggest advice to anyone playing HM games is to come up with a system and use it everyday. That will make earning hearts and money much faster, and just make the experience way more fun! I definitely look forward to purchasing more Harvest Moon games! <3

Good if your a fan of the series......
But if you're a newbie, I probably wouldn't recommend it. Basically all your doing is farming and working your tail off. There is kind of a story thrown in and you can marry a girl if you want, but most of the choices are just meh(although I do kind of like Muffy). It's good if you know what your getting into, but it's just long, boring, and time consumingly tedious to me. Thumbs me down if you want, but it's just not for me.

Where's the good portable Harvest Moon games?
This game has the same lay out, and all the same characters as a Wonderful Life. Could't Natsume come up with a better idea of a game. They're exseptions though for characters. We got a meirmaid, the Harvest Goddest, and the Weed Witch. You can go in Muffy's room which is pretty cool. They're are more girls to marry in this game. Like the characters listed above, Floira, and Luma. Although though if you own Harvest Moon Special Edition, having Luma around to marry isn't a really big deal. Your garden is huge which is cool too. Wait, I'm making this sound like a good game, well it's not. Your stamina can run out. The graphics put me to sleep. The music is just bla. Your character breaks his vow of silents, and it just doesn't have the pick up and play nature of the other games I know and love. Over all I say If you a big fan of the Harvest Moon games such as myself. Or just a nuby. Second think yourself before you buy this game.

When I was younger
When I was younger I used to play this game ALL THE TIME!!! I loved this game. It was really interesting and appealing. I loved playing this game with all the different possibilities. Although it got a little repetitive at times, I enjoyed playing this game. Great for any younger, maybe older too, kid looking for some fun.

Very fun
This game is very fun and very time consuming. It gives you a good feeling when you farm and a rewarding feel when you are with your significant other. Hard to get 60 sprites, very fun
