Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness
Well, basically this game is great for all the gamers who really love challenging themselves, like myself. I thought that evrything was alright. I definately thought that it was the hardest HM game yet though, but that's because i've only played 5 others, which were only for the DS and GB. I thought that the character customization was ok, because you can't really do much to your character. But I loved how challenging it was, to get married and get all the prperties and people on the island. I mean I'd recommend this game to any gamer out there looking for a challenging game, but likes the RPG sort of games. But you would have to play several other Harvest moon games for this one, because it is tough! I mean overall the game was an incredible experience, I'll never forget it! But if your new to harvest moon and you have either a short attention span or a low self-esteem, then you should'nt play this game. But start off with something easier like HM MFOMT. Overall though I enjoyed the game.
What is this!?!
Ok, I love the Harvest Moon games, but seriously what is this? I hated this game. The story appeared to be interesting but I couldn't play for more than I few minutes. The controls were terrible (think Legend of Zelda for the DS but 10 times worse) and made for my character dropping items in the wrong spots and losing items. Plus the graphics were odd, you almost looked like a bobble head... The ruck sack didn't automatically sort all the like items together, which means that you have to if you want any room for anything. The map doesn't work right because it shows the area in general of where the character is, but if you try to find them in that location, 90% of the time they aren't where their picture is. I was extremely disappointed especially because all the other Harvest Moon games are a lot more fun. I was looking forward to this game, and was sadly displeased. If you are looking for an amazing Harvest Moon game I recommend Harvest Moon DS (or Harvest Moon DS Cute) I would stay as far away from this game as possible.
Different and yet the same
I bought this game a few weeks ago, and so far it's pretty good. You can play this one entirely with the stylus, which is quite different from past Harvest Moon games. You don't really have the choice of controlling your character with the control pad this time, which to mean is kind of annoying. You can use the control pad and your trusty X, Y, A, and B buttons to use tools and eat food, but that's about it. The storyline is also a little different from most other Harvest Moon games. Usually you are the new kid in town and you inherit your father's farm. This time around you and a few other people are stranded on an island. More and more people move to your island as you progress in the game. (Farm crops, Ship items, Fish, Etc.) You also get the choice of being a boy (Mark) or a girl (Chelsea) unlike previous Harvest Moon games where you could only be a boy or only be a girl. Another interesting aspect is that you can court and marry your counterpart. For example, if you're a girl (Chelsea) then you can court you counterpart, the boy Mark. (And Vice Versa) Of course, your counterpart isn't the only bachelor or bachelorette in the game. You'll find some interesting boys and girls who you can marry, whether it's a very unusual or magical character like Shea the Wild Lion boy or the Witch Princess to a normal character like Eliot or Natalie. You'll also see a couple of characters from Mineral time appear in this game, though you can't marry them, as most of them are already married. This time around you also get the chance of having a son or a daughter, instead of the usual son only. And like past HM games your rivals can marry your potential wifes/husbands but this time, they can have children too, so your child won't be the only little one on the island. And surprisingly the Harvest Sprites don't play a big part in the game, so you don't have to aquire 80- something harvest sprites in order to get married, which is sure a relief. Unfortunately, you have to get atleast 50% of the island's tasks accomplished before you can marry anybody. Wheat and rice are new crops that you can harvest in the game, though they are not available from the start. You also get the choice of building a greenhouse for your produce, this costs around 500,000G so it'll be a while before you can actually build one. And unlike Harvest Moon DS and Harvest Moon DS Cute, the petting mini games are now random and don't happen everytime to brush your animals. Now, speaking of how challenging it is. Most of your materials aren't supplied to you at the beginning of the game. This also includes your trusty dog companion. Cooking is a lot harder, as you have to get to get recipes from different places before you can actually cook. You also now have a fullness meter that takes the place of the usual fatigue meter. The fullness meter is actually a lot more important than the stamina meter, because unlike the stamina meter, the fullness meter does not fill up after you go to sleep. You have to eat foods in order to fill the fullness meter back up. The only foods that are available in the beginning to eat are grasses, which don't really do much, chocolate, which you can buy at the store at 100G a pop, and of course the food you grow, which I wouldn't recomend eating because they make you a lot more money which you'll definitely need if you want to progress in the game. This also makes the game that much harder, seeing as how if you let your fullness meter drop to zero, you'll pass out. The graphics are better than previous Harvest Moon games for the Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance. The graphics resemble that of the Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon, which are pretty decent, considering that this is a Nintendo DS game, not a PS3 or Xbox 360 game. Yet, with all the differences in the game, the concept of the game is pretty much the same. Farm, Fish, Mine, and Marry. Remember it IS a harvest moon game. And like all harvest moon games before it, yes it can get bori
I first bought this game just because of the title, without reading any reviews. This was a poor choice. When I first starting playing I thought this game would have a lot of potential. The first thing I noticed was how hard the controls were. Moving with the stylus is a pain, and there is no option of using the d pad. Using tools makes me mad too. You can barely water 9 squares before you pass out without eating every piece of food you can find. This leaves little time to interact with the other villagers. You basically cant get good relationships with anyone either. It has taken me a year of giving gifts every day to get to the next heart level to the girl I was trying to marry. On top of that, the other guy beat me anyway. Building other buildings is too hard too. It takes forever to get enough money to buy something, let alone the months of gathering wood and stone. All in all, this had potential to be a good game, but the poor controls and difficulty of the game made it not fun for me. I prefer the more simple harvest moons like harvest moon 64 and ds.
I can't wait for this game to come out. I've been pestering the Gamestops in my area since I learned it was coming out in the same year, and I've disappointedly watched them pull the dates back. Its going to be nice going back to the old Harvest Moon format. And I honestly think this will be a hit. The graphics are awesome (much better than I would have expected after DS and Rune Factory), and the new characters with decent bachelors/bachelorettes will be a much needed reward. I mean, the AWL group was nice, but every HM Fan girl can admit that there was not a good enough choice of guys. As for the Island Stuff, I've heard many people complaining about it, and honestly-- think to what country made Harvest Moon. Japan, ??, Nippon, however you say it. Japan is an island nation, so a little community on an island isn't all that exotic. All in all, I'm looking forward for this buy. But low and behold, how many other games come out on that date? Sims2, HM:ToT, yadda yadda yadda. But out of them all, this is definitely the one thing I will make sure to buy.
This game is amazing!
This is my first time owning a Harvest Moon game, and I have only played on the original Harvest Moon DS on my cousin's DS. I bought Harvest Moon Island of Happiness the day after it came out, and I have been addicted to it ever since. You get to pick you gender, which is very nice. When you are first learning in the beginning, all the tasks are explained well and simple to do. You do not start out with a chicken coop or barn, you must buy those later on. Little by little, you start making progress in the game and are able to upgrade your farm. You can even get a horse and dog. More people will move to your island, and you can begin courting the man or woman of your choice. Eventually, you will be able to get married and have kids. I recommend using a guide online for help with marriage, as triggering "heart events" can be difficult. The game never truly ends, which is quite nice. Though beware: there are 2 false endings in the game where the credits will role, but after that you will be back on your farm. Your stylus is your one and only tool, and that takes a little time to get used to. But once you catch on, it's simple. (I recommend screen protectors to save your screen from scratches.) The graphics are very good, and the music is also fairly entertaining, changing with the weather, events, and seasons. The game can get rather repetitive at times, but it is up to you to change up your life to make it interesting. I would highly recommend this game to any first time or experienced Harvest Moon players, and to anyone who enjoys role-playing or simulation games.
Ok, when I got this game I thought it would be worth it and fun, since I own the harvest moon Ds ( the first Harvest moon Ds game) I thought this game would be more Challenging, but guess what? I finished the game within my winter vacation (two weeks) although it would have been fun if we had another generation similar to Rune Factory 2. I was really disappointed about this game because there was no basic story line, like Harvest moon Ds there was no goal in harvest moon Island of happiness, but the characters looked a lot better compared to the older ones, but the controls (like most people) made this even harder to play. I enjoyed it, but there was really no point to this game, except court, marry, then have a child that was about it and just get money to get the three bridges, and to rebuild the roads.
A new adventure! Though once again this seems like the typical Harvest Moon...ya know, Grow crops, Raise Livestock, Get Married, ect...I can't wait! Thats exactly what Harvest Moon is about! This Island thing seems to be a slight twist also. I bet there is a cool new intro. With the best Main charactor designs so far i'm loveing it! Mark and Chelsea are the best I've seen for awhile. The Classic Jack and Claire were getting old and the Jill and Pointy Hair Jack just were plan boreing. Then there was the two childish looking charactors in Magical Melody. This new look is way more safisticated and sociable. I love it. There is also a way for your favorite charactors to come visit you from Mineral Town! Though not marragable (which WAS disapointing i must say) You can see Karen,Popuri,Cliff, and Doctor from good ol' Mineral Town. Just plug in you copy of Friends of Mineral Town and wa-la. I am so excited!
THE PERFECT GAME
Harvest Moon Island of Happiness for the Nintendo DS was a perfect game. It is very addictive when you first pick up the game though. I like how you get to customize your character's clothing in farther in the game though. One thing the game needs to improve is the interface. Its cool how you can show your farming scores online too. The game's music rocks and really gets stuck in your head. I'm always singing the opening theme to Harvest Moon Island of Happiness for my DS Lite after I play it. The only score I rated below a 5 is the storyline. I rated this a 4 because there barely is any storyline to the game so you can't give it a ten because the game is awesomerifffffffic! Overall I would give this game a 10 out of ten because the game is so great.
The Lovely Storm (?) Is arriving!!~
What do I mean by Storm, my lovlies? Well what I mean is, All of the harvest moon games (And Rune factory), were great, but this... this is going to be so wickedly awesome, and I believe/hope, that its going to turn into a storm of people rushing to the store to get it. 1- You get to live on an island! How romantically daydreamingly awesome is that? (Sorry, being a girly girl XD; ) 2- A LOT of new character designs- I mean i LOVE the old ones, don't get me wrong, but its refreshing to see new ones once in a while!) 3- ITS FROM NATSUMI. It can't be THAT bad! >W< 4- The graphics, ROCK. I was seriously shocked when I saw some of the trailers to this game, and I thought "Is this really for the Ds?" And finally, I dont see them messing this game up, I just can't see it. I think its going to be a HUGE hit, or at least I hope so seeing that I'm pre-ordering it~ ~HARVEST MOON FAN XD~
