Rated 5 out of 5 by from Harvest Moon Series The game is like all Harvest moon. The cut scenes are amazing and the new stuff you can grow are nice. The boy and girls you can marry are all adorable. I have played as both a male and female and have marred each and everyone of them. The Rival Romance and kids are annoy if you want to marry that guy but if not there cute.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Comeback This is a decent comeback to a long list of mediocre games from Natsume. If you have a DS I highly recommend it, it's a great way to introduce yourself into the series or just to farm on the go. The farming and raising mechanic of this game seems lacking but it makes up for it with a lot of other stuff to do. I really like this game and I'm glad it's making a good turn for Harvest Moon.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointment... With Harvest Moon Island of Happiness, Natsume tries many new and interesting mechanics to the simple and beloved series, however new ideas aren't always good ideas. The game does have much more story than most Harvest Moon games. Most games are just "Ok here's your farm. Make it amazing!" but in Island of Happiness, you are one among many passengers on a boat sailing to find a place to settle into a new life in the country when a violent storm destroys the boat and washes you and the others onto shore. After finding and refurbishing abandoned houses, you and the others decide to settle on the small island. The story may sound interesting but the game itself is practically broken! First of all, nothing about this game looks good. The terrible graphics are just so hard to overlook. I've played through years of Harvest Moon DS and loved it. The controls felt so easy, you would move with the D-Pad, interact with A, and while there always the optional touch-screen commands, the buttons felt so convenient. In Island of Happiness, EVERYTHING you do is with the touch screen. It's very difficult to move in one direction, much less farm or talk to people! I couldn't count the number of times I picked up things I don't want and threw away things I did! From watering crops to feeding animals to shopping, the touch-screen makes everything a hassle. Even if you can tackle these awful controls and get past the outdated looks, you'll notice this game is incredibly slow-moving. Every flipping day for a week the old man came to my house to basically if I knew how to use a touch-screen. You have a map so you can see every single interesting area is inaccessible, and it will remain that way until you can pull thousands of gold from somewhere! Good luck considering the touch-screen makes farming next to impossible. It takes forever for more people to come and settle on the island so you can actually buy things like animals and house improvements. I could go on all day about why this game is so flawed, but the main thing is that it just doesn't feel like Harvest Moon. Natsume was definitely going for something innovative in Island of Happiness, but most of the new ideas are annoying or flat-out boring, and don't stick to the traditional guidelines that have made the past Harvest Moon games so amazing. For example, seriously? A hunger meter? It is so difficult to recuperate stamina by finding enough wild plants just to be able to water a few crops, what makes you think players will enjoy having another meter to babysit? The point is, there is just absolutely no reason to buy this game. If you're a die-hard Harvest Moon fan and have to know what happens, check out some videos of it, and make sure this is the game you want. I recommend you spend your hard-earned money on a game like Harvest Moon DS or DS Cute. It's up to you, but trust me, this game is not worth it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never got bored with it I bought this game a while ago, and I have NEVER been bored with it. There is always something for you to do, like get married, make friends, go to festivals, have kids, plant gardens, have cows chickens and horses, it is an amazing game, and I am completely addicted to it. I play it every day. (This is my first harvest moon game. ;) ) I love it, and I HIGHLY recommend this game. :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A simple game with amusing gameplay. Harvest Moon : Island of Happiness is, in short, a casual farming RPG game with elements of dating sim and fantasy. You can choose to be a boy or a girl, and start out on a boat on your way to your exciting new life as a farmer on a deserted island. Of course, it's not that simple. The boat crashes, leaving you on an island more deserted than you had bargained for with only four other people. The goal of the game is to turn your abandoned paradise into a thriving town, and you do your part by running the island's only ranch. You can take care of animals, plant seeds and harvest the rewards, and even create relationships with the other members of the town (there are more than just the first four, but you have to unlock them over time or using acheivements). The gameplay was at times a littly dry and monotaneous, but it is, after all, a life simulation, so of course it's going to be like real life. However, the addition of characters that your character and wed and even have offspring with is a refreshing touch. The many holidays and character events throughout the game also spice up the gameplay. The graphics during dialouge are in classic anime style, but when you're moving around it's obvious that they're trying pretty hard to be 3D. They're not succeeding - but they're not failing in a way that's aesthetically displeasing. The dialouge itself is an important part of the game, persay - although you can skip it because what the characters are saying is usually entirely unimportant. I say it's important because it's funny. One of the best parts of the game is listening to the other characters interact. The sound track switches depending on your location and the season you're in, and the sharp jumps are a little annoying, but the music itself is very catchy and hardly irritating at all. So, in short.... Good - Dating sim elements, storyline (although a little dry at times), gameplay, soundtrack. Bad - Sound jumps, monotony, attempt at 3D.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute, but gets old quick This is actually the only Harvest Moon game I've ever played. That having been said, I was pretty impressed with it! I bought this game more or less on a whim after a friend of mine recommended it and was surprised at how much I enjoyed playing. The graphics are adorable and there's tons to do all the time. It's almost like a Farmville RPG...lol. Overall I think it's fun and has lots of appeal if you're into cutesy/casual games. It's also fairly easy. I only gave it an 8 because it's 1) not the greatest game I've ever played and 2) pretty boring after the first playthrough. But I would definitely recommend it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I realyl enjoy this game . I got the game a month ago and enjoy it very much. he story line is great. The island depends on you and the sucess of the crops and items you pick up. There was one thing that i was confussed about, I hread about grass you pick up, that is worth lots of money and to not eat so you get lots of money. well after a few days of playing i found out that the "grass" is the colored hearts you pick up. So fyi for the reader grass is hearts and to save them there worth money. So far i have earned a good amount money in 5 years on the island. I do wish tho that i can customize my person. I understand that ur farming but if im suspose to find a husband in teh furure i need to look good. lol I have just started to join into the festivals. I am stuck to this game. As i am home and bored i flip open the Ds and turn the game on. My next purches id the Ds wifi so i can talk to other Harvest moon fans. Once im done with this game i wanna get another one. the only thing i hate is once you finish the game and you get a new one you gotta start all over again from scratch. So i want to have more customized people and more walking with the controler and not the stylus. . The only difference is when you water and harvest items its one at a time. Oh also i wish the charter could last longer durnign they day. I hate that i chop logs, rocks, and mines and after 5 im weak and pass out. they need to be stronger. So but this game and enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Alright Well, basically this game is great for all the gamers who really love challenging themselves, like myself. I thought that evrything was alright. I definately thought that it was the hardest HM game yet though, but that's because i've only played 5 others, which were only for the DS and GB. I thought that the character customization was ok, because you can't really do much to your character. But I loved how challenging it was, to get married and get all the prperties and people on the island. I mean I'd recommend this game to any gamer out there looking for a challenging game, but likes the RPG sort of games. But you would have to play several other Harvest moon games for this one, because it is tough! I mean overall the game was an incredible experience, I'll never forget it! But if your new to harvest moon and you have either a short attention span or a low self-esteem, then you should'nt play this game. But start off with something easier like HM MFOMT. Overall though I enjoyed the game.
