Not exactly Oblivion...
Dungeon Explores is a RPG that falls short of titles like Elder Scrolls and Alan Wake... By alot! The graphics are terrible and the sound is even worse. I had this game around when it came out and still wasn't impressed at all with the technology involved in the production of the RPG. It almost has gameboy level graphics and your characters don't even speak. They just have words flash acrossed the bottem of the screen and call it a day... Not too impressive to be completely honest but a kid that has never touched a PSP, PS2, PS3, XBOX, or XBOX 360 may be able to get passed the graphical and audio short comings,
A game that I will keep in my collection
Short comment: It is a real-time action RPG. The pace is not too fast so you should be OK if you are not too comfortable with speeds. I find this game fun to play and go back to it often. Story line is bland and music is OK. Bottom line: I am glad I purchased this game and plan to keep it. First with the Bad: Graphics are OK (not final fantasy or mana) but no bad to detract for my gaming experience. Sounds: Music is OK, no talking...NPC in town make some type of brief noise...I play with the sound off...so this is OK to me. The Good: Customization is good. Random weapon/item drops are good. Can customize the robot companion's equipment (that effect its abilities) and make it follow you or act on its own. Gameplay: I like the controls and their reaction to my commands (easier for a ranged character but worth playing for melee as well). Replay value is good. Random selection of special abilities and character/race types makes it worth playing again...no random maps though. Buy if if you like: Diablo like games, Guantlet type geas, Lord of the Rings for the Gameboy Advance (this is what the experience is like).
This is a very interesting game. It has compelling elements much like Diablo, the graphics aren't all that pretty from the screenshots, but they are smooth in real life. I feel that the story is sufficient to carry the player along and keep interest, but its mostly the gameplay and the variety of options available that does it. Multiplayer looks alot of fun, but I haven't tried it yet. The sound and music is really good, and the game as a whole is polished enough. This game should get way more attention than it is currently getting.
Multiplayer RPG Online on DS! HUZZAH!
Indeed this IS the revival of the Dungeon Explorer franchise. The first game is currently avalible on Virtual Console and is basically 5-Player Gauntlet. This one seems to be more Diablo-esque but that's hardly a massive change. Multiplayer offline and online is avalible and it seems that it's divided into two seperate quests: an offline and online quest each with their own story. Also worth noting, the PSP and DS games are actually two seperate games with their own storylines, character building systems, and gameplay changes. Now if only I could preorder this at the actual store... (it's not in their system yet) I'm betting finding a copy at launch will be difficult and as a fan of multiplayer RPGs I am drooling over this one!
It's really a shame, I played the Japan release of this game and let me tell you... woah, what a stinker. There are apparently billions of options but the graphics and game play are so bad I almost went blind... I was pretty disappointed in this one as it looked promising. Stick to the PSP for these dungeon crawls. DS rules, but this game... Ack..
ok First off Hudson Soft is not New to programming games. Dungeon Explorer 1 (1990) and dungeon explorer 2 (1992) Also they own a little known Franchise Called Bomberman Wahoo! I cant Wait for the 3rd installment of Dungeon Explorer! Its been 15 years in the making err Waiting! The videos Look Great! The visuals Look good I am definately picking this one up. Come on Dark Lord im commin to take you down!
Diablo II ?
This seems, like a diablo II for DS. However, what worries me, is that it is simply called, Dungeon Explorer. Meaning, this game may have been developed by noob developers, which ultimately means it may or may not be all that great.
