BoG fans rejoice (also a good game for the "simple" gamer)
Battle of Giants: Mutant Insects is the latest in a line of games on the DS that share this main title. It is the third main installment in the series and continues the benchmark set by those before it; a benchmark for great graphics, simple yet fun gameplay, extensive customization and an experience that is just the right length for a portable experience. The story of the game is simple enough. In a distant future, an asteroid hits the planet Earth and all life is wiped out except for the highly adaptable insects. The impact mutated these bugs into massive creatures that are now fighting for the position of the king of all mutants. By tapping the new game option, you admit yourself into these struggle and your main goal becomes very simple: defeat all foes and become the dominant life form on the planet. Admittedly, the story won't win any Oscars, but it fits the overall "giant monster" atmosphere of the game. All in all, the story does what it is supposed to do and works with the game to establish the atmosphere that is best for it. One of the other main elements that you will notice upon the start of it is the absolutely sublime graphics. The "Battle of Giants" games as a whole have some of the best graphics on the system, and this one doesn't disappoint. The textures are rusted and detailed and even the mutants themselves shine against the dark and rusty, apocalyptic backgrounds. In summary, the graphics are absolutely fabulous and continues to establish the series as having some of the best presentation values on the system. 3D DS games have no excuse know. The "Battle of Giants" games also tend to have epic and awesome scores that help in conveying to the player that this is a struggle of epic proportions. While there aren't too many themes in these games overall, whatever has been there has always been epic, especially the battle themes. On this ground, "Mutant Insects" captures a different feeling that its predecessors. The game's music serves a more tribal, jungle-ish theme, catering well to the insect theme. The music does work and is actually very good; it'd be perfect if not for the fact that most songs don't last for too long. In short, the music is pretty great and serves its theme well. When you start the game, you will have four mutant insects to choose from: Scorpion, Spider, Mantis, and Flying Ant (which you have to unlock). There are no true differences between each one other than how they look and animate. Even special attacks in battle are generally the same. This was actually pretty disappointing for me personally, but it is more of a nitpick than anything else. The gameplay is another hallmark of the "Battle of Giants" series. You control your giant with the touch screen and only the touch screen. There is absolutely no button input. Despite this, the controls are very solid. You touch screen and drag to move your giant, tap certain items to destroy them and so on. Even battles (which you'll be getting into a lot) are fought using the touch screen exclusively. Battles in "Mutant Insects" are plentiful. While they are not random, you will always encounter a foe to destroy. During these giant bouts, you can attack with either claws, a rush attack, or a spit attack that is usually specific to your mutant. You also have the option of blocking incoming attacks, dodging attacks, and initiating special powers to aid you. To that end, battles and gameplay in general is very simple and is perfect for portable gaming. "Mutant Insects" successfully continues another tradition of the "Battle of Giants" games, being the high amount of customization you can apply to your mutant. You can change the colors of each individual body section, upgrade body parts to increase damage and health, and even gain and upgrade special powers to aid you in battle. The game mixes this part up this time by applying a special currency that you gain from battl

Nice!!!!
Overall these games are almost at the top of the list for best. The only things that are ahead are fossil fighters and lego battles for DS category. Battle of giants (BOG) dinosaurs and dragons were both great so this one should be even better. The cover looks nice and so do the bugs on it. I hope that they will have more types to choose from and more maps.I also hope that there will be more upgrades and more attacks. Over all this game is the BOMB!!!
