Geltabz Performance Thumb Gripz
Get's the job done.
While I don't mind the thumbs sticks on my DS4 controller, after about 30 mins. of gaming, my thumbs start slipping off the sticks cause of sweaty hands. I have the Pelican brand grips for my PS3 controllers which include the extended triggers for the L2 and R2 buttons and the grips made a big difference to the thumb sticks and I don't have problems with my thumbs slipping off cause of sweaty hands. So now that I have a PS4 and having the same issue like I did with the PS3 controller thumb sticks, I already knew that I needed some thumb grips for my DS4 controller.
These Geltabz thumb stick grips were the first ones I saw that say they are compatible with the PS4 controller so I decided to give them a try. They go on as easy as the Pelican brand grips in which you turn them inside out, place the inside middle over the thumb stick, and then slide/push down on the outer part of the grip so that it goes over the thumb stick and your done.
After a few multiplayer matches on Killzone Shadow Fall, I must say that my aiming was much improved because of how much more control I had with the grips on the thumb sticks. The grips get's the job done as far as adding more grip to your thumbs and no slippage of your thumbs. Like many others have said though, the only negative thing about them is the price. I think maybe $4.99 is a better price point.
Highly recommend for both PS4 & XONE!
For PS4: These add to both comfort and accuracy/precision by adding some thickness and larger, grippy surface area to the top of the stick. However, if you play FPS on PS4, then I recommend not using one on the left movement stick, or using a lower profile, firmer grip (Grip iT) for the left or movement stick because its simply hard to click the left stick (L3) with it pushed all the way forward (sprinting in Battlefield or most FPS) since these are a bit too soft and the L3 stick isn't as clicky as, say the XBOX ONE controller, where these grips work best. Just a matter of personal preference but these really are great! I highly recommend using these in combination with SQUIDGRIPS!
does what it says
I mainly got these after reading some reviews on line saying the rubber on the thumb sicks for the ps4 can rub off. These do add some protection and they do fit on snugg and do not move or slide around. They are kind of a pain the get on but not to bad. If you roll the sides up almost turning it inside out put on the stick then roll the sides down around the stick was much easier for me. I think they could have been a little cheaper for four pieces of rubber but if it will protect my $60 controllers I guess it is worth it
the grips suck
you can't even get a good grip with them. if anything gets on your fingers its impossible to play. these grip sticks are the farthest thing from grip sticks. do not buy please.
After playing some intense games like Resogun or Velocity 2X, the wear on the rubber sticks from my calloused thumb caused the sticks to wear down to the plastic in a matter of hours. Wear aside, the worst problem was all the rubber collecting on the buttons and in the chassis, causing stuck buttons and dropped inputs.
I removed the rubber entirely before installing these, and they fit quickly and have been fine.
Exactly what I was looking for!
I'm typically used to the Xbox system's controllers. When I played with the PS4 controller, it was fine, until I started playing FPS. I was mashing buttons and hold that L3 button like it was no tomorrow (because of sprint), and I was slipping all over the place. Sooooo.....either 1) my sweat was more due to the hottness of the PS4 (so sexy) or 2) the stick just sucked......reading reviews, I just decided to add a little protection to my investment and bought myself some gel tabs. BAMMMMM! good enough...... Yes, it worked. Worked enough to keep my greasy fingers from sliding all over the place and better than paying a physicist to create a contraption that would adequately keep my manly digits from creating a horrible k/d ratio!! RECOMMENDED!!!!
Excellent for the low price, with one drawback
I bought these thumb grips because of a small tear on the thumb stick of my dualshock 4. Rather than buying a new controller, this was an excellent alternative. They don't raise the sticks too high and for the most part they don't change the performance of the dualshock 4. However, I have one sizable complaint. When I press in either stick to trigger an action such as sprint or melee in FPS games, the rubber on the edge of the grips rub against the case of the dualshock 4. Not enough to get stuck, but it creates resistance when moving the stick left and right. This is only a problem when moving the stick forward and to the sides when it is pressed in (R3/L3). It took some getting used to, but it's not "game-breaking"
I bought these because after a month of playing FIFA 14 non stop the left PS4 analog stick grip tore. These grips things are great they fit perfect and perform great except they do get a little slippery when wet (sweat from my fingers). If Sony made a analog grip this great I could of saved 8 dollars. The grips are hard to put on which means they will stay on and not swoosh around and become mush. I highly recommend these to any player that wants to save money from buying another controller just to rip they analog grips.
I REALLY LIKE THEM THEY ARE VERY GOOD FOR THE PLAYSTATION 4 CONTROLLER.THE GRIP OF THE THUMB GRIPS IS REALLY GOOD . AND THEY NEVER COME OFF.
Works great! Would highly recomend for DS4
I have found that my thumbs started to slip on the Dual Shock 4's Joystick for a couple of reasons.
1) The the stock covering on the sticks has a tendency to come off.
2) Snack foods can get grease on the sticks.
3) Clammy or Sweaty hands
4) For the ladies that game, using hand lotion can cause the sticks
To test the grip of the Geltabz. I used a bit of lotion to simulate Clammy or Greasy hands and the Geltabz grips worked great in these conditions. They are a great addition to for anyone that is having any of the issues above. If you are thinking about picking up a PS4 or another Dual Shock 4 these Geltabz should be highly considered. I also prefer the fact the gel pad doesn't have a textured logo on them.
My only issue is that due to the way the grips attach to the analog sticks it can be hard to click the R3/L3 buttons when the sticks are fully extended. This can be an issue with games like Call of Duty or Battlefield were the left stick is almost always extended forward and clicking on said stick causes the player's avatar to run. This can be overcome by a modified technique of not pushing the stick all the way forward.
****These can also be used on all other controllers even though they are categorized for use with the Dual Shock 3 & 4. The same goes for the Geltabz labeled use for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. I mention this in case one option is out of stock ****
