Call of Duty: Black Ops Dolby Surround Sound Gaming Headset - GameStop Exclusive!
I don't write reviews unless I feel the product is worth my time and this one is. This product was bought for me for christmas and I love them. I mainly only use them for Call of Duty so that I can hear every foot step or reload by the enemy. You can lower the volume on the mic or game as needed. The braided cord means a longer life span on the cable. The comfort of the ear pieces wont cause soreness around the ears. The mic can detach or simply be turned off. A good sturdy carring case for lan parties. You can even get this set to even work on the pc though I dont think it works as well. Yea, they are price but could possible be the last set you ever buy, at least untill a newer version is put out. If your a hardcore multiplayer than I really suggest the investment. You will notice an improvment on what you can hear in the game. It also muffles outside noise very well. I do sugget as I have done, go into game options and lower the music level if you really want to hear every detail in the game.
Was looking for some headphones that would work with my Xbox 360 and my PS3 without the need to have more than one set of headphones and these headphones work out well. Have had these for about 2 days and I can tell you without a doubt that if you are looking for the best sound you can get - well, your search is over. The sound is amazing and it blows my mind how headphones can produce 5.1 surround. The 5.1 on the headphones is NOT simulated this is true 5.1 and playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 took on a whole new meaning. To respond to a couple of comments from other reviews, the sound on set when volumn was maxed was not distorted - it was just super loud - no reason to have them that loud anyway. The digital audio cord is short, but that is all you need. The cord needs to be just long enough to go from your 360 or PS3 into the control box. Only thing that would have made them better.... cheaper price, but I guess you get what you pay for.
Tritton AX 720 Black Ops Special Edition Headset
So having tried a pair of the Tritton AX Pro's and not being fully satisfied with them, I did a ton of research online to see what headsets out there could compete with the Pro's and do a better job. The reason I didn't care for them was because of the actual sound quality. They do give good sound dispersement, but the clarity is lacking. Excellent bass, but scratchy treble. Very annoying. So I returned them and read about the Tritton AX 720's. That's when I saw a new pair of headsets (designed with Black Ops graphics etc) just came out and I was like, "Ok, I am getting these!" Based on reviews, people raved about the 720's over the Pro's and even talked about them beating out highend Turtle Beach headsets. I'm not familiar with TB, so I can't give an educated opinion. Anyway, I went to gamestop and picked up a pair of the Black Ops Edition headsets and all I can say is WOW. Soon as I got home and opened these (packaging alone is well worth the price increase over the regular 720's) I was impressed. The headphones feel SO much better than the Pro's and the sound blows them out the water. You'd think going from 4 speakers in each earcup to just one, that I'd notice a degrade in sound going to the lower model, but it's the opposite. Believe what you read, these headphones are better. Bass is accurate and treble is dead on. You get what the game sound engineers intended for you to hear. Sound can be heard from all positions which was a major concern so that was the deal sealer. If you're questioning whether or not to get these based on the price, it's FAR worth it. That's coming from someone who always thought it was a waste of money to get a "special edition" anything. You'll enjoy them...A LOT!
Are these just a painted Tritton AX720? It looks like it to me, however, I can't see the detailed specs. I have the AX720 and they are great. A set of the AX720 is ALOT cheaper then these. Mine did not come with the carrying case, extra ear pieces, or paint. However, I didn't need any of that. Look into it if you don't care about the paint. You probably already have a backpack you can chuck them in.
A warning to ALL gamers interested in Tritton Gear
For those that have owned a Tritton Headset before you will agree with me that while the headset(s) are AMAZING while working properly, they do have an extremely short life span for the price.
Experience: Purchased a Tritton AX PC PRO back in Jan 2010 and it was malfunctioning within March (Mic was sending feedback and "Bass" line was constantly buzzing" and the "TT" symbols where not lighting up anymore). At the time Tritton Technologies replaced their headsets quickly and without any hassle! The customer service alone made up for the crummy life span.
However there is a very bitter ending to this story, The headset that was sent out lasted only 2 months and by May it was already experiencing loss of microphone and the feedback on sound was horrible. You may ask yourself why not just use the great warranty that came with the headset?
Well the problem came with MadCatz acquisition of Tritton Technologies, Customer and Tech Support either didn't answer emails or phone calls or where extremely rude and lied when I would call.
I had been told that a new headset was being shipped out and It took me reporting them to the BBB to get a replacement 5 months after my initial call. Yes folks that's right I just the other night received the replacement. Something that originally would have arrived at my door within 2-5 business days took Madcatz 5 months to deliver and only because i filed the complaint, in fact the rep that called me to settle the dispute said that he wouldn't have ever known about my problem if I had not filed said complaint. ( I guess the bi-weekly calls and emails didn't do it)
Anyhow I digress, Tritton Tech Headsets are Amazing "When they work" and "when the warranty is honored in a timely manner". Sadly I can not stress enough that you will have problems with this item or any other MadCatz supported item. Don't waste your hard earned money on a Headset that will only be amazing for 2-3 months.

I contacted Tritton directly to see if they are aware of the speculation that these new black ops headphones are in fact the AX Pros and 720's just painted with Black Ops designs. The person I spoke with gave me a horrible customer experience and avoided the question on several occasions. I asked if any of the complaints about the AX Pros or 720's would be fixed and he simply avoided my questions about them changing anything about them until I kept pressing the question. I understand perhaps Tritton might want to keep things under wraps until the product is released but I think a slight yes or you won't be disappointed would have sufficed. I was just basically looking for some sort of hint that perhaps they'll be improving the headsets instead of just trying to make a quick buck and ride the Black Ops wave. I provided him with numerous amounts of forums with people speaking about the problems with the AX Pros and 720's. Now if you've done your research you might have heard common complaints such as the Trittons break too easily, the cords aren't long enough so you're bound to stay closer to your console than you may like, there are too many cords to plug in, and Trittons have bad mics. This is what he had to say...
"The primary cord is 12.5 feet long, so you are limited to how far you can be from the TV, although some people have bought 9-pin mini-din cables and extended their headset cable by an additional 12 feet, but those are sold from 3rd party manufacturers. So far as bad mics, we are on our third generation mic, so it’s pretty well refined, and not sure about the headset breaking easily, but it’s funny how often people who have had issues chime into a forum, but not as often people who had a great experience.
Regarding the number of wires, it only takes 3 wires to make our headset work, one to the wall for power, one to the headset with game sounds, and one to connect to the console for voice audio… We offered 3 different connection cables, in case you wanted to connect to a PS3, Xbox or PC, but some people thought it was confusing. But you definitely don’t connect them all at the same time."
I'm not sure if it's much of an answer but I guess we'll have to wait and see the reviews for these headsets when they come out.
A must HAVE for any gamer!
This headset is almost perfect.
Pros: Crisp, clean clear sound no matter if you play Black Ops all the way to watching a movie! When playing a game the sound is so clear you almost have a glimpse into the future by hearing all movement around. When watching a movie your house will be forgotten as you are immersed into a different world by not having others disturb you. Dual volume control allows user to set game audio and chat audio separately.
Cons: Optical audio and power cord too short.
Second thoughts: Buy it! Be happy! You will soon be on your way to bliss ignoring everything around because this headset will block out 100% noise when proper volume is added, and you will not disturb anyone (just remember to lower your voice because you will be yelling when talking into the mic).
Great headset but I was a little let down?
This Set is Great I just expected a little more. One of the best on the market. The sound gets a little distorted at max volume. The bass is good but could be better. It is made well and the case is super cool and will keep it in good shape for traveling. Online chat is very clear and my friends have no problem hearing me. Be careful as you tend to yell while playing not realizing it. Overall I am very happy with the AX720 pros. A must have for serious FPS play. Works awesome with Zombies on COD black ops. So go out and buy you a set and quit putting it off.
