If you have the money just buy them
First off the sound in this headset is just unbelievable. The quality and depth as well as the surround sound are all top notch. You will be amazed at how clear the sound is and how well you can tell which directions sounds are coming from. There is ZERO interference, no pops, crackles, or static. Mic is sensitive but not to much which is nice you never have to yell. The build quality is impressive, its made of metal and quality plastic components. The firmware is super easy to update as well. Just follow ALL instructions and they work great. These blow turtle beach sets out of the water. All the bad reviews were from 2012 when there were some early problems, but i assure you that Astro has fixed everything. If i could give this headset a 100 out of 10 i would do it. Seriously if you have $300 bucks for a headset, go buy this headset now!

Do not buy these
These headsets have major microphone issues. I opened a ticket with Astro support and was told that they are planning to fix it with a future firmware update. Here is the quote from Astro support :" if your outgoing voice is fluctuating, this might just be a software issue that the A50 has with the PC, and we're coming out with a new EQ customizer tool in these next few months that will also allow you to adjust the amount of volume that your headset outputs, and should fix this issue."
Save yourself the headache and buy a different product.

BEST HEADSET PURCHASE TO DATE
Before this headset, I had the one that Sony had come out with last year and I thought those worked pretty well. They worked fine, but didn't exactly satisfy my audio and gaming needs. I figure that I should up the ante and see what else they had out in a slightly higher price range and I found the always popular turtle beaches, the tritons and the astro headsets. I looked at the price of this headset and cringed inside (as I'm sure most of you did), but I thought why not at least ask. I bought a pair of these and I haven't regretted it yet. The design is remarkable with very comfortable ear pads that even after hours of play do not leave your ears sweaty. The sound quality is the best I've ever heard and the mic( from what I've been told of course) is crystal clear. I definitely recommend this for avid gamers, but if it's casual gaming you're into, I would opt for a less expensive pair.

Best headset on the market!
The astro a50's have a sleek design and amazing 7.1 surround sound. Also they feel like a cloud. Besides the xbox chat cable ( its required dont blame astro ) the headset is completely wireless on xbox, pc, and ps3. These are better than any tritton, turtle beach, or any other company, these are AMAZING. You cant use the a50's for tournaments though, so if you do tournaments then I would suggest the a40's. P.S. All the people who rated a low grade were people that didn't wait for the update, so dont listen to their reviews.

awesome but pricey
I bought this with some money i got for Christmas. The A50 is awesome, and I think it's well worth the $300. The only problem I've had so far is the comfort (the comfort is still better than any other headsets I've used). I have big ears that kind of stick out, and after a couple of hours my ears start to hurt (This really only is a problem to a select few).

Great headseat for hardcore gamers.
Only bad thing about this headset is the long cable that connects to the Xbox controller. Also it kinda cuts off randomly for a second but you would expect that for a wireless headset.

The worst headset ever.
The purchase was originally for my PC. The headset I had before this was a g930 Logitech 7.1 headset. I really love the spatial and positioning sound quality. The A50 quality was substandard and the spatial acuteness was lacking. I had to connect the mixamp to my sound card with a short (less than a foot) optical cable. The charging cable that came with it was also less than a foot in length.
After charging the headset, I discovered the sound quality was stereo. I swapped the sound from my creative recon 3D to my onboard 7.1 sound card and received the same results.
I tried contacting Astro Gaming. They do not offer phone support, the only support avenue they have in order to contact them with technical problems or billing questions is a ticket system. They promise on their web site a 24 hour delay for a response. The first ticket I put in did not receive a response from them. Five days later, I placed another ticket where I received a response in 3 days. The last ticket I placed with them was that I was returning the headset and they didn’t respond back for 12 days.
When I did get a response, it was “try it on a console”. That was it. Their product and service is terrible. Since then I have ordered the corsair vengeance 2000. In my opinion it’s far superior to the a50 and cost a third of the a50. Also, Astro says they have Dolby 7.1 surround sound. This cannot be achieved on an Xbox 360. Only Dolby 5.1 is supported from the Xbox 360.
My recommendation is to stay away from this one.

Not wireless
The most comfortable headset I've ever tried on but not in any way wireless. Shouldn't have a 300$ price tag and not be full wireless when there are two options out there.

Only headsets you'll ever need
after many reviews i decided to pick these A50's up, 300 bucks is a difficult choice to make, but i could be better pleased, the headset fit as good as it gets, as someone who also owns overpriced beats and bose headphones, they block out unwanted noise so well u can enjoy them without cranking them all the way up , and still hear specific game noises such as footsteps.the craftsmanship is what u expect for $300 bucks packaging is nice presentation and the stand is a great added bonus vs having your pricey unit laying on a table. WEEPA no more annoying wife about loud COD playing lol
would be a ten if u could use the audio mini with an ipod hardwired vs bluetooth
