Being a veteran player of five years, playing multiple races and classes to better get a feel for each one before settling down into my present character, I can honestly say that as a first MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI is an excellent transition from console RPGs. Firstly, there's the storyline element. I personally find storyline to be the most important part of an RPG, online or otherwise, as without one, we simply have a grinding game with no foreseeable end. Final Fantasy XI addresses this with gripping storylines, with each quest giving it's own backstory and usually sporting cutscenes with their own emotive music.
