Rated 7 out of 10 by MrGiggity Not scary, more cinematic experience
I've never played silent hill before in my life. I have heard it's freaky, so I thought I'd try it. Here's what I think. The game's scary moments are mixed in jump scares, pshychological fear, and freaky atmosphere. Yet, it's not very scary. It tries to be cinematic, and it is. If you are only playing for a scare, you won't enjoy this. But, if, like me, you just want to see what everyone's talking about and play a short game that has a bit of an appeal, go ahead. This is the only game that I've actually enjoyed watching cutscenes, because they were more like watching an animated movie to me. The game is OK, until the end. The end is awesome. THere are a few different endings, I got the truth and justice ending, or Ending B, which did an amazing job of binding together confusing parts of the game to where they really make a lot of sense. But, the game is pretty repetitive, and took me only a few days to complete, like 6 hours. Don't buy it for more than 20 bucks, but it's an awesome game to rent.

THIS DOES NOT FEEL AT ALL LIKE A SH GAME! AS A FAN EVEN TO AN EXTENT OF ALL 7 GAMES UP TO THIS POINT I CAN SAY THIS IS THE 1ST ONE I WILL NOT KEEP FOR MY COLLECTION. IT WAS ONE THING TO LOSE AKIRA YAMAOKA (SOUND AND MUSIC DESIGNER) BUT TO COMPLETELY RUIN THE GAME'S FEEL AND EVERYTHING??? You can't backtrack at several areas if you're into exploring SH like I do. The new music composer is THE ONLY THING they did fine with. Items are so hard to see on the ground that they add a "HIGHLIGHT ITEMS" option that BARELY helps. You can only hold ONE WEAPON (No inventory for them). The game auto saves, so no more save when you want.! Takes 37 minutes before you fight first enemy, and you only fight 7 enemies in an hour and a half's time! The enemies are lame and don't fit for the series and the changing into alternate world looks dumb. I may not even finish this game. I'll replay The Room and Homecoming before I'd ever redo this one!
Rated 8 out of 10 by AkaMadcow It may not be a 10 But its a solid game
I am not sure why the silent hill series has to endure such harsh criticism from its own so called fan base. I myself have enjoyed the series from beginning to and that includes Homecoming.
There are a few thing about downpour that I don't love but none of these things ruin the game as a whole. I would like to have seen the dodge ability from homecoming left in the game. I know the character is not a special ops agent but any moron can perform a simple dodge maneuver. I think the item menu one of the games weakest points. It feels outdated and generic compared to recent titles in the series. The controls feel stiff but there like that in all silent hill games including the beloved silent hill 2 in fact the controls are better than most in the series. Its just to bad they didn't make the character responsive and nimble like Alan Wake.

I've been enchanted by these games ever since the original. Despite the somewhat blandness of 4 (in my opinion anyways. It's the only one aside from SM that didn't scare me at all), I've thought the games great. I haven't had the...pleasure...of playing Homecoming, but after hearing certain reviews, I don't see myself buying it anytime soon. Now Downpour, however...I've been seeing trailers and hearing about it on certain websites, and I'm absolutely ecstatic for it to come out. In fact, I'm ready to run out the door and get it right now...except we still have till mid-ish March. Regardless of that sad little fact though, it definitely looks like a game that'll push the series back into a good direction. But I could be wrong. After all, 4 looked like it was going to be a great game before I actually played it.
Rated 8 out of 10 by AkaMadcow A good game with room for improvement
The first thing I would like to mention out about this game is concerning the reviews it has been receiving. While this game is in no way deserving of a 10 it is far less deserving of the ridiculously low scores many have posted. Fortunately the fan boys and haters seem to be close in there numbers and have effectively canceled each other out.
Now for my review:
I really enjoyed the graphics in this game. There are many games out there with better graphics but Downpour has the best graphics the SH series has to offer in my opinion. The town of silent hill has never looked better! The sound is up to par with its predecessors so it goes without saying that the game sounds great. The games controls and menu's have the greatest room for improvement. I think they are a step back from Silent Hill Homecoming. I think the ability to dodge in Homecoming was a step forward. I am not sure why they overlooked this obvious improvement to the series in Downpour. I would like to see an intuitive fluid dodging system like Alan Wake utilizes in future Silent Hill games.
I could ramble on all day about what they did right and what I would like to see changed in the future. In the end I did enjoy my time with Downpour and I plan on revisiting it.
Rated 9 out of 10 by reviwer96 Silent Hill:Downpour = Greatness
While this game is getting bad reviews from IGN and other places...even other Silent Hill Fans are complaining....But why ? Yeh, sure.. the game needs a little more polish and starts out kinda slow, it gets better, a i'm not just sayin' this either! The gameplay is solid, the soundtrack is so good that I even downloaded one of the songs to my Ipod...! Oh...and it has a great story! Now, the choices in the game are very generic though,as it doesn't change anything except the ending, but it doesn't mean that the game should be bashed on because of a few small reasons to replay...like if you play through it three times like me it's nice to see a new ending and get some gamerscore, lol ! Give it a CHANCE !
Rated 0 out of 10 by Fangs IS SILENT HILL AFTER ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh boy I already read the plot or story mode if you will. Is gonna be awesome, the game is about an immate and he is been transferred from his previous prison to another, and by fate of course or just to play a cruel joke on him, they passed by his hometown. Of course the hometown is Sillent Hill people, what where you expecting Gotham City? Anyway the bus crases and him and some others immates run from the crashed bus as well. By the way, the immate is a descendant from one of the founders of the creepy town, and also..... I won't spoil it for you anymore, by the way the main theme of the game is water if you didn't figure out by the title. Get the game if you are a Silent Hill fan!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rated 10 out of 10 by Ike998 Silent Hill Downpour is great for hardcore gamers.
When I first started playing Silent Hill Downpour,I expected the rock group Korn to be playing the theme song, but they didn't. Maybe the song will be at the ending credits, I don't know? But I really like the way hte game is presented, & how it plays. It didn't take me long to get used to the controls at all. Other players of the game have complained that the game lags a lot, but that's due to the autosave feature, no big deal to me. The thing I hate is when I encounter that entity that wants to suck Murphy dry, I've never seen anything like that in a game before. But for the most part, despite the game lagging when it autosaves, it's a gem, so GO BUY IT!!!

Well I've never played any Silent Hill game except for Homecoming which I just beat a few days ago. My girlfriend always talked about how the Silent Hill saga was amazing and I was interested in it but never felt like buying the games(I only had a GameCube before so I was screwed either way). I had only played the Resident Evil saga which I loved. I loved Homecoming. It was pretty good in my opinion. I've read a lot of articles about this one and it looks like it's going to be a mix of 1-3 with Shattered Memories and Homecoming. So I look forward to it. Hopefully they'll make it scary and creepy. Because I'm still waiting for a game to scare me.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Racer00 Nice change to an awsome series
Alright, I know Silent hill had had a rocky history with gamers, but the fans of the series play these games no matter how they come to us. This game is headed in the right direction, I am enjoying my time in SH:DP, it should be a automatic pickup for hardcore fans, and gamers that have written the series off. Alot of the fighting and puzzles have changed which for me where the other ones seemed to start to have problems. With the new mechanics in the game with the weather it makes for an interesting game. I highly Recommend this game if you want a descent horror game, or just want to try something differnt.
